Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he liked taking part in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose most times. The definite improvement in his game began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would often wager against each other. Howard was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL holdem.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the strongest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
