Net High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
