NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
