Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he liked gambling on numerous card games at a young age. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often wager against one another. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of NL holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
