Distracting Players

[ English ]

Do you ever acquire that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest gambling den, to find a superior stakes casino game of Texas holdem, to sit at a Black jack table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I love to scratch it.

I also like to watch people wager. No 2 poker faces seem equal. When I gamble I like to believe I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. Except I know I’ve particular personal habits. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I bet on poker or Chemin de fer. And then I smoke. Except I chain smoke whether I am winning or losing, whether I’ve a very good hand or bad.

I once played inside a weekly poker game. The casino game was constantly five card draw. There was a man who wagered with us each and every week who constantly wore a hat. When he was dealt a excellent hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and playing with his hat. Needless to say, he in no way won.

The very best poker gambler I ever saw was a gentleman who produced far more actions and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Generally an costly suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was generally brushing his pants or holding his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to analyze him for long periods of time. I would tried to see if I could notice his tell. Selecting fuzz off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a short pile – did this mean he had a very good hand?

Many years later I ran into him in a very bar in Chicago, il and we had a drink. I asked him if he were aware of all those activities he created or if they had been unconscious. He informed me that just about every little thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everyone is constantly checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are attempting to detect the the tell.

So his technique was to provide them lots to think about. His thinking was if they have been pondering about him picking a piece of fuzz off his shirt and what it meant they certain weren’t pondering about their cards.

His process was distraction. And it worked for him. Never give up a program that functions for you.
