Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
