NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
